There are many things in our lives that we do even though we may not want to do them. We do the ironing so that we look the way we should at work and in social settings. We wash our clothes so that we don't smell and offend others around us. We know what is socially acceptable and what is not. Now we need to learn to bring our faith into every aspect of our walk. We need to realize that we might be plumbers or legal aid people or computer tech or health care workers on the surface but in reality we are God's army sent to a lost world. You are God's plan to help the person who is having a bad day or the student who is depressed. God is not calling you to send for me your Pastor to do your missional job. No one else can do what you can do. We do not do it alone. Here are some missionary ideas for your consideration: 1. Learn to listen to what others are saying. Don't judge them but don't apologize for what the scriptures teach. 2. Make sure your walk is equal to your talk. To me it is inconsistent to call others sinners without first knowing you are one. 3. Admit when you don't know or are wrong. There is far more that I don't know than I do know. I have been wrong many times. We mess up and we need to confess up. Don't twist the scriptures looking for the loop holes for yourself or your friends. When we will fail to live up to the light then we have to fall down, repent and get up again. 4. Remember that engaging the culture and the people around you is the most important thing that you can do.
5. Be open to the Holy Spirit's leading as you go about your day. Look for God moments as your day goes along.
The October 31st "Hamilton Spectator" newspaper has many sections on the future of the City of Hamilton. I would recommend that everyone read it and begin to pray about what role we will play in the spiritual development of the new City. Some of it is pie in the sky but some of what people are dreaming about will happen. Are we ready to be a part of God's team to reach the core for Christ. I picked up a new book (no one is surprised by that) called the UnChristian and this months passion thought comes from it: "One outsider from Mississippi made this blunt observation: 'Christianity has become bloated with blink followers who would rather repeat slogans than actually feel true compassion and care. Christianity has become marketed and streamlined into a juggernaut of fear-mongering that has lost its own heart." We need to get back to the true heart of the gospel which is love for those who are living without the presence of Christ in their lives; who need him but don't want to admit it ; and who are looking for someone to point them in the right direction. We are to love the culture around us not so that they will be like us, but so that Christ will redeem the very culture we are living in. Live passionately make lots of mistakes and keep coming back to the river of God's grace. In His grace and mercy, Don When Jesus, others and you are in their proper places the river of God’s grace flows out through our lives powering change and character growth!
